Smoking Cessation Study

This study will examine important safety aspects (such as agitation, aggression and depression) of the drugs varenicline (Chantix) and bupropion (Wellbutrin/Zyban) compared to placebo and nicotine-replacement therapy in smokers with and smokers without a history of a diagnosed psychiatric disorder.  This study will also examine how well varenicline, bupropion and NRT will work to help people with and without psychiatric disorders quit smoking.

This study is only for those who have a deep desire and commitment to stop smoking.

The length of the study is 24 weeks (6 months).There will be 15 visits and 11 phone calls. 

You may qualify if the following apply to you:
  • Male or female cigarette smoker, 18 – 75 years, motivated to stop smoking and considered suitable for a smoking cessation attempt
  • Smoked an average of at least 10 cigarettes per day during the past year and during the month prior to the screening visit
